Our Learning Environment
Our environment is one of a calming, cosy space that ensures the children feel safe and secure and happy in school.
Real, authentic, open-ended resources are easily accessible in the classroom and are placed at eye-level. They include items that are made from natural materials such as wood to encourage children to think of their own ideas when it comes to play time. We use loose parts to encourage fine motor control, pattern making, shape identification, recognising textures, comparing sizes and developing communication.
PE Day in Reception is every Wednesday.
Here is the kit.
๐๏ธAutumn Term 2025๐
Wonderfully Marvellous Me is our whole school Autumn term inquiry, with a focus on Health and Wellbeing as our area of Learning Experience.
In Reception we are looking at ‘Me and myself: My talents and my team’ as our inquiry title. We will be finding out about how diverse our families are and celebrate our differences. We will be finding out about different talents and abilities, trying out new activities and developing our growth mindset and resilience to develop our wellbeing and self-esteem.
We are looking forward to finding out about the children and their likes, dislikes and special talents.
Our hook into learning…
Splat Entertainment Circus Acts
We had a real life circus act come to school to visit us and teach us new skills. We enjoyed balancing peacock feathers on our fingers and noses.
Did you know we can throw and catch a scarf and blow them with our mouths?
We were excellent at balancing and spinning plates on our fingers and we helped our friends too!
The tight rope was a brand new skill for us to try out. We were wibbly and wobbly but we practised our balancing skills with lots of fun!
Go, Team Reception!
Our talent journey has begun!
We started by exploring sports talents — giving lots of new activities a go, learning new skills, and having tons of fun along the way!
Little Chefs in Action!
Our next talent was cooking — are we chefs in the making?
After reading Pumpkin Soup, we were inspired to make our very own class pumpkin soup! We’ve loved learning all about autumn and even baked delicious autumn leaf biscuits too.
We are artists ๐ง๐จ
We stepped into the world of artists and discovered just how creative we can be! We explored the splatter-tastic style of Jackson Pollock and had great fun creating our own bold digital masterpieces inspired by his work.
We also journeyed into Katie's Starry Night and were amazed by The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh. With chalk, paint and lots of swirling, twirling patterns, we created our own starry creations full of colour and movement.
Our classroom was bursting with imagination and creativity! ๐๐๏ธ
Our Learning Experiences this term…

โ๏ธ Winter Explorers! โ๏ธ
We’ve had a wonderful start to the term exploring winter! When we returned to school after Christmas, we were excited to see our yard covered in snow — the perfect way to begin our learning.
We learned about winter weather, the clothing we need to keep warm, and even explored winter words in Welsh. We looked for signs of the season and discovered that robins stay with us during winter. To help them, we made bird feeders, using pictograms to decide which ones to create.
We also painted beautiful robins after carefully observing their features and made winter leaflets to share all of our learning.
What a fantastic start to the term! ๐จ๏ธโจ
Big Welsh rhyme time ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ท๓ ฌ๓ ณ๓ ฟ
We had so much fun taking part in Big Welsh Rhyme Time and exploring lots of nursery rhymes together! We focused on The Wheels on the Bus, Five Currant Buns and Old McDonald Had a Farm.
We all climbed aboard the Dosbarth Glas Express, singing The Wheels on the Bus and even creating our own verses and actions! ๐
In our class bakery, we counted out pennies to buy currant buns before baking our very own real currant buns to eat and enjoy with our friends — they were delicious! ๐ง We practised our number skills while setting up our shop and taking turns as customers and bakers.
On the farm, we explored the animals in Old McDonald Had a Farm, recreated the rhyme through small world play, and practised our cutting skills to make fantastic tractors. ๐ Working together, we designed and built our own lift-the-flap farms to discover where different animals live.
What a rhyming, singing, baking and learning adventure we had! ๐
